CHASING STARS (OR HOLDING ON TIGHT TO MY WET SHOES)
Drawing from my own experience working in the Lower Austrian wine quartier, ‘Chasing stars (or holding on tight to my wet shoes)’ is a reinterpretation of testimonials from refugees working with me in the fields and, at the same time, a symbolic gesture that refers to my own past goals and aspirations. The sculpture, made out of twelve golden foil balloons filled with helium, is designed to float. However, due to the weight of water droplets sprinkled on it, it barely floats above ground level.
The project was presented during the exhibition ‘Vuela vuela. Visiones turísticas latinoamericanas’, at the gallery Zona de Desgaste, Mexico City, 2020.
